Dirty Trick of the Day

Another viral e-mail: Huckabee hates Catholics.

The conclusion of the e-mail is worth singling out:

Sadly, Mike Huckabee would seek to divide conservatives and Republicans along religious lines for political gain. While America needs a more robust expression of faith in the public square, it does not need a preacher politician who has shown a repeated pattern of dividing people along religious lines. The shared values of Protestants and Catholics are too important to risk endangering this important coalition by nominating Mike Huckabee, a candidate who has demonstrated a blind eye to anti-Catholicism.

(emphasis added)
It's pretty clear that the e-mail is doing exactly what it accuses Huckabee of doing: trying to split Republicans along religious lines. I can't help but wonder if this is a sign of a rift in the soft Catholic-Evangelical alliance that has slowly been coalescing in recent years. Obviously, it's going to take more than an e-mail to destroy something that's been several decades in the making, but it could be a sign of some heretofore unresolved animosity and that the relationship is in for hard times ahead.

THe Catholic Evangelical alliance is ok. In fact it is growing stronger but not in the direction some people that oppose Huckabee want it too.

THis is pretty much political junkie news and in the end no one is paying too much attention.

However it is dirty
