Being in the hall when Barack Obama gave his victory speech tonight had the feel of being a witness to history. What was striking to me was his appeal to independents and Republicans to join him and the total absence of any appeal to race – unlike Hillary’s constant harping about becoming the first woman president. And before that, I attended a Democratic caucus – true democracy in action and one of the most fascinating political events I’ve ever covered.
