Han Solo was Supposed to Die?

So says Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back producer/second unit director Gary Kurtz:

“We had an outline [For Return of the Jedi] and George changed everything in it,” Kurtz said. “Instead of bittersweet and poignant he wanted a euphoric ending with everybody happy. The original idea was that they would recover [the kidnapped] Han Solo in the early part of the story and that he would then die in the middle part of the film in a raid on an Imperial base. George then decided he didn’t want any of the principals killed. By that time there were really big toy sales and that was a reason.”

It's actually a really informative story about the movies' "forgotten man."

That was interesting. It explains in a non-hysterical way why some people feel so disconnected from parts of the series. The rage levels always seemed unhinged to me. But that's probably because when it comes to a type of "imaginative" work, i'm always just grateful something has come around for me to look at. I'm much more disturbed @ the prevalence of ugliness in animation (Ice Age and all that style, just fugly, can't watch it)
Interesting ideas also, i.e. how Shitty McShit it would have been to have John NO TALENT Travolta in it, and actually... I never liked Leia, she was not a great female hero IMO. I wonder how Jodie Foster would have done. My gut says, a lot more compelling, sexier and angstier but who knows. One thing that keeps happening and REALLY should stop, is fangirls cosplaying Slave Leia at Cons and dumbass fanboys being turned on by that lumpy lame-i-tude.

and in conclusion, I feel compelled to say....
