Gov. Doyle to China

The numbers explain why:

For the first six months of the year, Wisconsin exports to China have increased in several key industries, including the scientific and medical equipment industry, exports of which have jumped 116 percent compared with the first half of 2006.

Exports of industrial machinery are up 29 percent in the first half of 2007, while electrical machinery exports rose 30 percent for the period compared with last year.

Dollar figures for 2007 were not disclosed in the report, but in 2006, Wisconsin exports to China exceeded $870 million, a 29 percent increase compared with 2005. China is now Wisconsin's third-largest export destination, up from 18th a decade ago.
