The Funniest Show on TV

Hands down: It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

New season starts Thursday. DVDs of the first two seasons come out on Tuesday.

A few fellow TV aficionados have called HBO's "Flight of the Conchords" a Seinfeld for Hipsters, but I truthfully don't see it. Yes, the leads in Conchords are hipsters, but the show's primary motives are to parody the music experience. Seinfeld was about yuppie insecurity and narcissism and Sunny takes that trajectory to a delightful extreme by creating a universe of cynicism and self-absorption populated by the most deplorable of assholes.

The show's powered by pure id: if you have to "like" the characters of a given TV show to enjoy it, then you'll probably hate Sunny. None of the characters are remotely redeeming, and no subject is sacred , but the whole package as good as TV gets.
