Tomorrow's Excuses Today

In the wake of the disastrous release of the Iran nuclear NIE, there are several prominent neoconservatives screaming at the top of their lungs that the U.S. intelligence community is, in fact, wrong. One is Norman Podhoretz. Another is John Bolton. The Weekly Standard is equally unrepentant ... I'm sure in the days to come more will make their displeasure at the CIA known.

A few weeks ago, U.S. counterintelligence a former employee of the FBI and CIA plead guilty to spying for Hizbollah. The Iranian Revolutionary Gaurd help to establish Hizballah in Lebanon in the early 1980s and has maintained strong ties since. It should come as no surprise, then, when the recent NIE is inevitably dismissed as a mismanaged consequence of this security breach by some neocons.

I would seriously doubt if there is a legitimate connection.
